Leading the Agile Transformation

Discover the changes, big and small, that help agility take hold.

The vital role that leaders play

Leaders are critical for moving an organization toward greater agility. Indeed, according to McKinsey, the top 3 challenges when making the shift to agility are: non-agile culture and ways of working, lack of involvement from leadership, and the need for a clear vision and implementation plan.

With foresight, leaders can prepare for all of these. By walking the talk, being attentive to challenges, and addressing the entrenched patterns that hinder agility, you will spearhead the path forward.

Getting everyone on board

In this program, you will shift your organization’s norms, mindsets, and behaviors.

You’ll identify what kinds of behaviors get incentivized—through financial rewards, recognition, or praise—and what you can do to encourage change. You’ll lead by example, role modeling agile thinking and acting. This includes embracing mindsets such as:

  • Abundance. Agile leaders look to open new market spaces through innovation, partnerships, and customer collaboration—seizing opportunities to create value for and with all stakeholders.
  • Flexibility. Rather than create detailed long-term plans and follow them to a T, agile leaders provide direction, plan incrementally, and adjust based on results.
  • Customer centricity. Agile leaders make a habit of frequent customer interaction. They prioritize based on what will provide the customer the most value, and measure the success of initiatives in these terms.

Finally, while leaders can initiate change, it cannot be imposed; team members must believe deep-down that change is necessary. You’ll learn how to communicate the need for change, while making sure this communication is a two-way street.

Why it works

We combine research in fields such as change management, cultural transformation, social psychology, and habit formation. Lessons are tailored based on thorough study of participants’ organization.

Topics Covered

Understanding context

Take stock of where you’re at. You’ll examine the strengths and limitations of your current culture, and identify changes that could have an outsized impact. You’ll anticipate obstacles to change, and brainstorm potential solutions. And you’ll identify team members who are well-positioned to help lead the change.

Reinforcing new habits

Let your actions show the way. Practice role-modeling agile behaviors, from communicating transparently to growing from mistakes. You’ll also learn how to encourage agile behaviors in those you lead. This involves praising individuals in a way that suits their personality and building team-oriented incentive structures.

Promoting team ownership

Change is a delicate subject. We help you communicate the need for change, and recognize your team’s concerns. You’ll practice deep listening, helping your people overcome challenges, and incorporating team input. Team autonomy is a key component of agility. You’ll look for ways to empower your teams to take on greater responsibility.

The abundance mindset

Shift your mindset from fixed-pie to win-win. We equip you to scan the marketplace for chances to create new value, and to pounce on opportunities. You’ll also change your perspective on “the competition.” This involves reflecting on strategic partnerships you might form with other organizations, and discovering what you can offer each other.

Iterative improvement

Agility is about progress, not perfection. Understand why, at the end of the day, “good enough” actually creates more value for customers. You’ll master practices that enable you to plan and execute incrementally and work in short cycles. You’ll emerge able to adjust to setbacks in real-time, and course-correct when things don’t go as planned.

Customer centricity

Agility puts the customer at the center of everything an organization does. You’ll implement tools and practices that let you stay in constant communication with customers. In turn, you’ll be able to evaluate success based on customer satisfaction, quickly iterate in response to feedback, and consistently deliver value.

Inspiring great collaboration

Take teamwork to the next level. You’ll examine how you can give your teams greater room to operate while maintaining goal alignment. We help you create an environment in which everyone feels safe to share ideas, no matter how “out there.” You’ll also learn how to promote constructive conflict, and resolve thorny interpersonal issues.
